Self-Care Isn’t Selfish: Making Time for What You Love

We live in a culture that praises hustle, celebrates productivity, and rarely hits pause. But here’s the truth: we can’t pour from an empty cup. Taking time to recharge, to do what brings us joy, that’s not a luxury. That’s self-care.

And no, self-care doesn’t always mean a bubble bath (although it can). It’s anything that reconnects you with yourself. For me, that means getting out for a walk, listening to vinyl records, doing yoga, heading to a concert, or catching up with a friend over coffee. It’s those moments where I feel most grounded, and most like myself.

Reclaiming the Things That Light You Up

We all have those things we love but somehow stopped making time for. Maybe it was reading, painting, hiking, or just sitting in silence without a phone buzzing. Life gets busy. Deadlines pile up. And sometimes, even doing something you love can feel like one more item on the to-do list.

But the irony is, the more you care for yourself, the more energy you have to care for the people and responsibilities around you. That includes your family, your work, and even your goals, whether they’re personal or professional.

Real Estate with Balance

In my line of work, real estate is often thought of as go-go-go. And yes, it's fast-moving, demanding, and deeply emotional. But what grounds me in this business is connection. I love helping people find homes where they can feel safe, inspired, and excited for the next chapter of their lives.

But I also believe in walking the walk, and that means showing up as a full, healthy person. When I take care of myself, whether that’s through movement, music, or rest, I can show up more fully for my clients, my friends, and my community.

What Fills Your Cup?

So here’s a gentle nudge: do something this week just for you. Not because it’s productive, not because someone else expects it, but because you love it. Whether it’s a sunrise walk, your favourite album on repeat, a yoga class that helps you reset, or a quiet morning without a plan,  that time matters.

Take care of yourself. You’re worth it.

And when the time is right to talk about your next step in real estate — I’ll be here, grounded and ready to help.
